USB-C Basics
USB-C can carry power, data and video through a single oval connector you plug in either way up. One cable can charge a laptop and drive a monitor at the same time.
Power
A phone may want 25 watts, a laptop 60 or more. A bigger charger than you need is safe — your device only draws what it needs. Too small means slow charging.
Cables
Two USB-C cables can look the same yet carry different power, data speeds or video. When it matters, buy from reputable brands and check the listed specs.
Video
Plugging in a display only works if both ends handle video output. If nothing appears, the port likely never had that ability — it is not broken.
Power
You do not need the manufacturer's own brick, but buy from a reputable brand with proper safety certifications. Counterfeit chargers can damage devices.
Care
Yanking a cable by its cord breaks the wires inside. Pull by the plug, avoid tight bends near it, and coil loosely — your cables will last years longer.
